AUTHMATRIX

AUTHMATRIX

Test an access-control matrix (role x endpoint) for IDOR/authz gaps

PyPI CI License: COCL 1.0 Suite

Part of the Cognis Neural Suite.

pip install cognis-authmatrix
authmatrix scan . # → prioritized findings in seconds

🔎 Example output

Real, reproducible output from the tool — runs offline:

$ authmatrix-emit --version
authmatrix 0.1.0
$ authmatrix-emit --help
usage: authmatrix [-h] [--version] {scan} ...

Test a role x endpoint access-control matrix for authorization gaps (IDOR /
over-permission). Defensive / authorized use only.

positional arguments:
  {scan}
    scan Analyze a matrix JSON artifact and report authorization gaps.

options:
  -h, --help show this help message and exit
  --version show program's version number and exit

Blocks above are real authmatrix output — reproduce them from a clone.

Sample result format (illustrative values — run on your own data for real findings):

{
"timestamp": "2023-02-15T14:30:00Z",
"actor": {
"name": "Alice",
"email": "[email protected]"
},
"verb": "created",
"object": {
"type": "indicator",
"id": "i-1234567890abcdef",
"name": "Suspicious Domain",
"description": "A domain known to be used by attackers",
"confidence": 90
}
}

Usage — step by step

  1. Install the CLI (console script authmatrix):
    pip install cognis-authmatrix

  2. Scan a role × endpoint matrix JSON for authorization gaps (IDOR / over-permission):
    authmatrix scan matrix.json

  3. Read the result as machine-readable JSON, or pipe a matrix in on stdin:
    authmatrix scan matrix.json --format json
    cat matrix.json | authmatrix scan -

  4. Gate on severity--fail-on sets the minimum severity that triggers a non-zero exit:
    authmatrix scan matrix.json --fail-on high   # exit 1 only on high/critical

  5. Automate in CI — fail the pipeline when authz gaps appear:
    - run: pip install cognis-authmatrix
    - run: authmatrix scan matrix.json --format json --fail-on high

Why authmatrix?

authz coverage

authmatrix is single-purpose, scriptable, and self-hostable: point it at a target, get prioritized results in the format your workflow already speaks (table · JSON · SARIF), gate CI on it, and let agents drive it over MCP.

Features

  • ✅ Load Matrix
  • ✅ Analyze
  • ✅ Summarize
  • ✅ Runs on Linux/macOS/Windows · Docker · devcontainer
  • ✅ Ports in Python, JavaScript, Go, and Rust (ports/)

Quick start

pip install cognis-authmatrix
authmatrix --version
authmatrix scan . # scan current project
authmatrix scan . --format json         # machine-readable
authmatrix scan . --fail-on high # CI gate (non-zero exit)

Example

$ authmatrix scan .
  [HIGH    ] AUT-001  example finding             (./src/app.py)
  [MEDIUM  ] AUT-002  another signal              (./config.yaml)

Use it from any AI stack

authmatrix is interoperable with every popular way of using AI:

  • MCP serverauthmatrix mcp (Claude Desktop, Cursor, Cognis.Studio, uncensored-fleet)
  • OpenAI-compatible / JSON — pipe authmatrix scan . --format json into any agent or LLM
  • LangChain · CrewAI · AutoGen · LlamaIndex — wrap the CLI/JSON as a tool in one line
  • CI / scripts — exit codes + SARIF for non-AI pipelines

How it compares

Cognis authmatrix AuthMatrix
Self-hostable, no account varies
Single command, zero config ⚠️
JSON + SARIF for CI varies
MCP-native (AI agents)
Polyglot ports (JS/Go/Rust)
Open license ✅ COCL varies

Built in the spirit of AuthMatrix, re-framed the Cognis way. Missing a credit? Open a PR.

Integrations

Pipes into your stack: SARIF for code-scanning, JSON for anything, an MCP server (authmatrix mcp) for AI agents, and a webhook forwarder for SIEM/Slack/Jira. See docs/INTEGRATIONS.md.
