Usage — step by step
probesite runs synthetic uptime/latency checks from a JSON check file and exports the results, including Prometheus metrics. Console script: probesite.
- Install:
pipx install probesite # or: pip install probesite - Run all checks in a JSON check file and print a status table:
Exitprobesite run checks.json0= everything healthy,1= anything down or degraded. - Emit JSON for dashboards or piping:
probesite run checks.json --format json | jq '.summary.availability' - Export Prometheus text-format metrics for scraping:
probesite run checks.json --prometheus > /var/lib/node_exporter/probesite.prom - Use it as a CI / cron health gate — fail when availability drops:
probesite run checks.json || echo "synthetic checks degraded/down — alerting"

Why probesite?
synthetic monitoring
probesite is single-purpose, scriptable, and self-hostable: point it at a target, get prioritized results in the format your workflow already speaks (table · JSON · SARIF), gate CI on it, and let agents drive it over MCP.
Features
- ✅ Load Checks
- ✅ Evaluate
- ✅ Run Check
- ✅ Run Checks
- ✅ Summarize
- ✅ To Prometheus
- ✅ Runs on Linux/macOS/Windows · Docker · devcontainer
- ✅ Ports in Python, JavaScript, Go, and Rust (
ports/)
Quick start
pip install cognis-probesite
probesite --version
probesite scan . # scan current project
probesite scan . --format json # machine-readable
probesite scan . --fail-on high # CI gate (non-zero exit)
Example
$ probesite scan .
[HIGH ] PRO-001 example finding (./src/app.py)
[MEDIUM ] PRO-002 another signal (./config.yaml)

Use it from any AI stack
probesite is interoperable with every popular way of using AI:
- MCP server —
probesite mcp(Claude Desktop, Cursor, Cognis.Studio, uncensored-fleet) - OpenAI-compatible / JSON — pipe
probesite scan . --format jsoninto any agent or LLM - LangChain · CrewAI · AutoGen · LlamaIndex — wrap the CLI/JSON as a tool in one line
- CI / scripts — exit codes + SARIF for non-AI pipelines
How it compares
| Cognis probesite | Upright | |
|---|---|---|
| Self-hostable, no account | ✅ | varies |
| Single command, zero config | ✅ | ⚠️ |
| JSON + SARIF for CI | ✅ | varies |
| MCP-native (AI agents) | ✅ | ❌ |
| Polyglot ports (JS/Go/Rust) | ✅ | ❌ |
| Open license | ✅ COCL | varies |
Built in the spirit of Upright, re-framed the Cognis way. Missing a credit? Open a PR.
Integrations
Pipes into your stack: SARIF for code-scanning, JSON for anything, an MCP server (probesite mcp) for AI agents, and a webhook forwarder for SIEM/Slack/Jira. See docs/INTEGRATIONS.md.
